Kilburn Night – “it feels like we’ve been transported back to Galway!”

Choir as nuns - Kilburn 29th July 2015The Irish Elders Culture office  hosted our first cultural event in Kilburn on the 29th June and it was a huge success. Our umbrella charity, The Irish Elderly Advice network, has run advice services for over ten years in the Mazenod community hall next to the Sacred Heart church, where we usually see around 22 people each session (Wednesaday, 10am to 1pm).

At the request of Fr Michael, the parish priest, we put on a night of older Irish culture for then local community. There was a great turn out and dancing into the night. One of the audience members said, “it feels like we’ve been transported back to Galway!”.

Performing to a full house in the heart of Kilburn the night was a mixture of theatre, music and dancing. There was an extract from Nuns Chorus, a new play by Sally Mulready, music from Jacquelyn Hynes, Billy Faughnan, the Irish pensioners Choir and dancing from the entire audience to the music of Mary and the Three Counties.

We would like to say a special thanks to Irish TV for coming along and filming the night. The full programme (Out and About in London) is due to be broadcast on Irish TV (Sky 191) at the end of August. Jacqui as nun playing flute

We would also very much like to thank Tulip Siddiq MP, Member of Parliament for Hampstead and Kilburn, for joining us on this very special Irish evening in the heart of London.
