The Irish Elders Culture Office would like to send our huge congratulations to Aine Morrissey for winning the 2015 Gaelic Voices Festival Competition. Her beautiful winning entry of a traditional Sean–nós song is below.
Aine, from the Gaeltacht in Connemara, is a native Gaelic speaker and a member of the Irish Pensioners Choir. We are all very proud of her achievement and happy that she has shown great contribution older Irish people make to the preservation of Irish culture here in Britain. This year, for the first time, the Irish Elders Culture Office supported 10 older Irish people to take part in the competition.
James McDonald, Organiser of the Gaelic Voices Festival, said, “One of the highlights of the Gaelic Voices Festival is to hear new voices each year and this year we were blessed to have Ann Morrissey of the Irish Pensioners Choir on stage singing ar an sean-nós. Ann was the winner of this year’s Gaelic Voices Singing Competition in the Gaelic Language category and showed what a wonderful ambassador she is for the singing tradition. We look forward to hearing her sing again soon and often!”
